K-Kids
Highland School in partnership with Kiwanis International is sponsoring a K-Kids Club at Highland School. The K-Kids Club is a student-led service organization for elementary school students dedicated to school and community service. Students in grades one and two who are interested in community service and are of good character are eligible to participate. Kiwanis International is a worldwide service organization whose clubs serve children and develop youth leadership. Highland K-Kids club meets once a month after school in our cafeteria. Community service projects include collecting coins for Red Cross, fundraising for the Wallingford Town Fire Works and collecting supplies for the Wallingford Animal Shelter.
Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol is a program where students are chosen to assist with arrival and dismissal. It is comprised of second graders at the beginning of the year, and then first graders join as the year progresses. Each cycle lasts 6-8 weeks, so there are many chances for students to be chosen for this privilege. Students are selected by their teachers based on responsibility, respect and good behavior.
Running Club
Highland TIGERS is an after-school running club for students. The goal is to foster social, emotional and physical health, in a safe and healthy environment as a fun after-school activity. Each week students work with Highland School staff or "running coaches" to learn about exercise and elements of running. Each session begins with a warm up, new running technique, running practice, and ends with cool down.
